"Bitter at Shall Not Be Questioned has a post on the late mayor of Freeland Borough, Pennsylvania, Tim Martin, who had been a member of MAIG. Mayor Martin passed away on September 2, 2010 due to cancer. Nonetheless, he has either been listed in advertisements or has signed letters to Congress and the President since that time on behalf of Mayor Bloomberg and his Illegal Mayors. I didn't realize that Bloomberg had such supernatural powers!" ...

"So, if an armed assailant were to break into my apartment, I essentially would be screwed. A kitchen knife wouldn’t do much good in this situation."

"Therein lies the dilemma of gun control. ..." ...

Andrew Sullivan Is Wrong About the Supreme Court and Guns

"In a long post titled 'The Tea Party’s Fatal Delusion,' Daily Beast blogger Andrew Sullivan takes aim at the 'spasm of ideological abstraction and purism' which he says has gripped the American right since 2008 and manifested itself in all sorts of regrettable ways ... I agree with some of Sullivan’s criticisms of the modern conservative agenda and disagree with others, but when it comes to his take on the Supreme Court and the Second Amendment he couldn’t be more wrong. According to Sullivan, the right’s current 'spasm' has included 'a Supreme Court happy to find radical new interpretations of the Constitution' such as 'turning the Second Amendment into something more radical than anything previously contemplated.'" ...

Recall: Thompson Center Venture Rifles Mfg. Between 8/1/2011 – 10/28/2011

"Thompson Center, one of the more well known makers of rifles specifically marketed for hunters and owned by Smith & Wesson, issued a recall notice for their Venture bolt action rifles made between August 1 and October 28 of this year. Venture rifles are marketed around the $500 mark and in competition with other 'budget' bolt guns. Apparently these guns have had an 'issue' with the sear, which typically translates from marketing speak as a problem where the gun may accidentally discharge without anyone pulling the trigger. Yep, bad news. Glad I went with the Weatherby for my project instead. Make the jump for the full recall notice and how to get your gun fixed." ...

... "The handgun is the perfect firearm for one handed defensive shooting because that’s exactly what it was designed to do. It’s a lightweight firearm that uses ammunition with a large diameter but relatively gentle recoil and is designed to be fired using a single hand. Some modern firearms even have ambidextrous controls, but most at least have a left handed version available for purchase. The compact size and lightweight ammunition also mean the gun is easier to hold and maneuver around the house and won’t tire out your arm from holding up the gun as fast as a rifle or shotgun would." ...

"When I first started collecting C&R firearms, tons of CZ-52s were on the market for around $100-125. The price has risen but they are still cool - and very powerful - handguns. They are also somewhat complicated and unusual compared to more modern like the Glock."

Men's Emotional Connection to Guns: An Interview With Michael Messner (Part 2)

... "MM: Sure, we do need to think rationally and logically about the role of guns in our society. But to suggest that gun rights advocates are the rational ones in the national debate ignores the deeply emotional connection that many gun owners ... often have with their guns. I illustrate this in my book by reproducing a loving letter that my grandfather hand-wrote to my dad on Christmas Day in 1934, on the occasion of giving then-fourteen-year old Dad his first rifle. This gift -- and the lessons about safety embedded in the letter -- were a deep expression of love. For the rest of his life, my dad kept that letter in his top drawer, with his socks. Emotions are of central importance on all sides of the gun debate. ..." ...

"Years ago I read a newspaper story about an elderly man, a loner, who lived in an impoverished area of Cleveland. Neighbors had noticed his mail piling up on his porch. When they received no responses to phone calls or to knocks on the door, they called the police, who broke into the man’s house. What they found is an allegory for our time"

"The withered old man was dead in his bed, surrounded by rifles, pistols and guns of every description. Boxes of bullets and cartridges were stacked on the floor. He had a knife in his cold, dead hand and an actual harpoon was leaning against his refrigerator, which was empty."

"In a nation of plenty and with grocery stores in the man’s neighborhood, he had starved to death." ...

"Obama scares women and liberals into the gun store"

"Gun ownership is on the rise in some surprising places. As much as President Obama would have us believe that only small-town yokels 'cling to guns or religion,' a Gallup poll released [recently] suggests many of the firearms that have been flying off the shelves in the past two years were purchased by Democrats and women. The Second Amendment has truly gone mainstream." ...

"RealClearPolitics.com has posted a transcript of testimony by Attorney General Eric Holder, submitted at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing at which he was asked to answer questions about the ATF's 'Operation Fast and Furious' gun running scandal, which has led directly to the death of two, possibly three U.S. agents and more than 200 Mexicans."

"In the video, Holder can be seen telling Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) that he has not apologized (or even talked to) to the family of Brian Terry, one of the U.S. Border Patrol agent murdered by a weapon used in the Justice Department operation now being investigated. ... "In addition to refusing to come clean on exactly when he first knew of Fast and Furious (and what he knew), Holder also had the gall to tell the Senate Judiciary Committee that the real issue they needed to focus on was 'the battle to stop the flow of illegal guns to Mexico.' In other words, what we should be focusing on here is the need for gun control in order to keep the Southern border safe. To that end, Holder said the ATF should receive increased powers via the increased 'resources and statutory tools it needs to be effective.'"

"Note to Eric Holder: One way the ATF could be more effective is if it would quit forcing gun store owners to sell guns to straw purchasers who turn around and pass those guns to criminals." ...

... "In 75 seconds of pointed questioning of Attorney General Holder (see sidebar video), Senator John Cornyn has perhaps left the excuse makers scrambling for something better. In that time, he asked Holder if he knew that Operation Wide Receiver (the Bush-era operation) actually did involve an attempt to track the firearms, while Fast and Furious did not. Cornyn then asked Holder if he knew that Operation Wide Receiver was run in conjunction with the Mexican government--Fast and Furious was kept secret from not only Mexico, but from the [ATF] attaché to Mexico, Darren Gil. Gil, in fact, after discovering on his own what was going on, was basically pushed into retirement ..." ...
