FAIRFAX, VA -- The National Rifle Association (NRA) will fight the proposal by the Obama administration and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to drastically restrict recreational shooting opportunities on public lands. The NRA is particularly concerned about the stated motive of this action. A spokesman for the BLM told U.S. News and World Report that the proposed ban was being enacted in response to "urbanites" who "freak out" when they hear shooting on public lands. The spokesman also acknowledged that the impetus for this restriction was not rooted in safety, rather it was introduced to reduce "social conflict." |

An Illinois man was sentenced to life in prison for killing a prominent retired attorney who was also a gun activist, during a robbery to steal his gun collection. The Courier-News reports that 82-year-old Carl Kuhn invited Terry Bratcher into his home that fateful night in 2009 because he knew him well -- Kuhn represented Bratcher several times, even loaned him money and got him a job. Bratcher returned those multiple favors by killing Kuhn. Bratcher and another man smothered Kuhn, who was a former official with the Illinois State Rifle Association, by forcing his face into a couch cushion. Then they stole 46 weapons, hoping to sell them and use the money to buy drugs. |

We all know about guns-for-cash programs, even guns-for-toys during the holiday season. But with the price of a gallon of gasoline skyrocketing, in Louisiana they have come up with a novel guns-for-gas idea. According to a report in The Daily Reveille, for the second straight year the East Baton Rouge local government set up such an exchange program. People turned in their guns this weekend and got gas cards ranging from $50 to $300, depending on the type of weapon surrendered. Officials admit the program does not take guns out of the hands of the bad guys. |

Police departments around the country are working to shield their radio communications from the public as cheap, user-friendly technology has made it easy for anyone to use handheld devices to keep tabs on officers responding to crimes. The practice of encryption has grown more common from Florida to New York and west to California, with law enforcement officials saying they want to keep criminals from using officers' internal chatter to evade them. But journalists and neighborhood watchdogs say open communications ensure that the public receives information that can be vital to their safety as quickly as possible. |

The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of California’s ban on so-called “assault weapons,” claiming that the statute is “vague and ambiguous” in its definition of assault weapons, leading to the arrest of a California man on two different occasions. SAF is joined in the lawsuit, which was filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, by the CalGuns Foundation and Brendan John Richards, an honorably-discharged Marine and Iraq war veteran, who was arrested and jailed in May 2010 and August 2011. |

The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to overturn the California ban on so-called “assault weapons,” alleging that the statute is written in such a way as to be unconstitutionally vague and ambiguous to the point that cops can’t tell what is legal and what is not.
There is living proof in the personage of an honorably discharged Marine named Brendan John Richards, who did a tour in Iraq. He has been arrested not once, but twice – in May 2010 and again in August of this year – for the same offense: possession of assault weapons. |

Looking for a stocking stuffer? You might think about an AK-47 or a Glock or an even more exotic expression of your civil rights. And if you live in the correct state and have taken the proper legal steps you don't have to worry even if you or the person you intend to present with a firearm gift have been convicted of a violent crime.
You might be a little cautious, if the intended recipients have spent some time under lock and key for manslaughter or armed robbery or other crimes where a gun comes in handy. They might get angry they didn't get the gun they really wanted. Oh, well. Guns don't kill people. People kill people. |

Response to McCabe’s call for readers to support H.R. 822, the National Concealed Carry Bill: 1. I think the NRA was wrong on this bill and you should not have supported them. See below:
Republican Congressman Justin Amash (MI-03) fought back against the institutional gun lobby for its support of H.R. 822: "It's remarkably bold of the National Rifle Association to send out false and misleading messages regarding H R 822, an unconstitutional bill that improperly applies the Commerce Clause to concealed carry licensing. |

Everyone should have at least one of these at home at the ready. An AR style rifle such as this Ruger SR556 will give you options. Hopefully, you can neutralize the problem before it comes to this in the home.
Whatever your state’s laws are with regard to “Castle Doctrine,” the fact remains that your home is your castle. That means that, regardless of your socio-economic status and where you live, you have a basic right to live in a safe and secure home. |

The General Assembly's Legislative Council unanimously approved a proposal allowing a person to use force under some circumstances to stop the illegal entry of a police officer into a home as long as the person does not know it is a police officer, the officer does not identify himself or herself as police and the officer is not wearing a badge or uniform. |

The Quincy City Council Monday night passed a non-binding resolution supporting a Concealed Carry handgun law.
...
Alderman Mike Rein (R-5) put the resolution before the Council. He said he wanted to get the conversation rolling because it's an important one. Illinois is the only state that doesn't allow Concealed Carry.
After Rein made a motion for his resolution - which mirrors that of the one the County passed in May - Alderman Tony Sassen (R-4) seconded. But Alderman Steve Duesterhaus (R-2) had a few questions for Rein. |

Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr., should resign immediately and if Holder does not do so on his own, President Barack H. Obama Jr., should demand Holder’s resignation.
Here is why. Someone at either ATF or DOJ during a meeting one day came up with and proposed what they thought was a brilliant idea.
“What if we let straw purchasers buy guns from U.S. gun shops and take them across the border into Mexico? They will take the guns to the drug cartel leaders in their secret hideouts and we can swoop in and grab them. It’ll be great!” |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all — security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. — EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens] |
