"ONE question that worries many visitors to defensivecarry.com, a website devoted to the delights and pitfalls of life with a hidden gun, is whether their 'concealed-carry' permits will be valid outside the state in which they are issued. Can they take their guns on holiday with them? Can they pack them in their checked bags for a flight? What if their plane is diverted to a spot like New York, which makes it exceedingly difficult to carry a gun? ..."
"Gun-rights activists have a simple solution: require all states to honour one another’s concealed-carry permits. There is no reason to suppose, says Andrew Arulanandam of the [NRA], that a person considered fit to carry a gun in one state would suddenly become a menace to society on entering another ..." ... |

"You know, I'm really getting tired of hearing from the antis that our fears of an Obama Presidency have been shown by events to be mere 'gun-nut paranoia' (if they're feeling really frisky they'll throw in a 'black-helicopter-conspiracy-nut' too)."
"This evenings particular rant was set off by a letter in Spokane's The Spokesman-Review today. In the letter Joe Speranzi assures all of us weak-kneed paranoid gun nuts that:""'The facts are on record that Obama believes hunters, collectors and other law-abiding Americans have the right to purchase, own, transport and use guns responsibly, plus he respects the rights of Americans to hunt, target shoot and use guns to protect their families. ...'" ... |

"It’s here. One of the best – or, depending on your family, worst – days of the year. You’re going to be at that table again, cousin Ned grabbing your arm and bending your ear about his latest can’t-miss investment opportunity and how you’d be a fool not to get in now. Aunt Joanie will keep pressing you to try that mysterious side dish she brought because no one else seems to be brave enough to put something that looks like that in their mouth. And then later, your sister’s bratty little kids will be running around and screaming like stuck pigs when all you want to do is watch the football game while the digestion process starts and the food coma kicks in…" ... |

"A lot of paranoid people view situational awareness as a security solution. That’s like saying radar is an excellent way to prevent bombing. Early threat detection is great, but it’s only the first step in a successful self-defense, whether that’s running or fighting or fighting and running. Mr. Stratfor above offers but a single response to a potentially lethal threat: a flashlight. For sure a Surefire is better than nothing. And yes, they make damn fine blunt instruments. But an edged weapon, tactical pen or hmmm firearm might be more helpful. Assuming we’re not talking about foreign countries. If so, the more bribe cash back at the hotel the better. [/rant] Fred Burton’s very very right about at least one thing . . ." ... |

"The paranoia that some letter writers display regarding the president’s stance on guns borders on the comical."
"The facts are on record that Obama believes hunters, collectors and other law-abiding Americans have the right to purchase, own, transport and use guns responsibly, plus he respects the rights of Americans to hunt, target shoot and use guns to protect their families. In his own words, 'I believe there is a Second Amendment right, an individual right for people to have the right to lawfully bear arms.'" ... -------
Submitter's Note: It is not 'paranoia' that Obama listed outlawing semi-auto rifles, turning ATF trace reports over to the Illegal Mayors Against Guns to use in spurious lawsuits and banning all private transfers of firearms on his candidate's and 'transitional' websites. Nor is it paranoia that he inflated the numbers of US gun store guns going to narco-terrorists and used that as an excuse to push for outlawing semi-auto rifles, nor is it paranoia that he tried to push the Senate to ratify CIFTA (a treaty which would have required a gov't license to modify a weapon (i.e. mount or change a scope, change a trigger or even change furniture) or assemble a weapon (which arguably included loading a weapon)), nor is it paranoia that his administration blocked (a previously approved) importation of surplus rifles from South Korea. |

"Throughout this series, I have asserted that 'seepage' of U.S. military weapons sold to various and sundry Latin American countries and (shadowy proxies) over the last five decades account for the vast majority of weapons used by Mexican drug cartels. Not guns purchased in small amounts from U.S. gun stores, and then walked into Mexico by a procession of low level drug thugs—with or without the ATF’s help. That idea caught a bit of traction yesterday when biggovernment.com ran the numbers for its audience. To Mr. Stilson’s most excellent analysis, I’d like to add a little something the gun grabbers call common sense. Here’s the question: why would they bother with gun store guns? ..." ... |

... "What started as a routine, if dubious, traffic stop ... somehow resulted in police officers smashing Veras's car window, slapping him with five misdemeanors, a violation, a summons for reckless driving, and five traffic tickets, and manhandling the motorist to the point that, a year later, he still suffers back pain. Veras also got a face full of pepper spray and 16 hours in a holding cell. Police officers processed him through the system; he spent only two hours in the precinct and the rest in booking. And all that happened after Veras called 911 because he was so disturbed by the officers' behavior."
