"Dan Mitchell of the Cato Institute in the United States has raised a very interesting issue for those who believe that a complete collapse of European society is inevitable."

"Mitchell wrote a piece titled 'European Economic Crisis Highlights an Increasingly Important Reason to Oppose Gun Control' where he argued that many of the not so rich in Europe may need to arm themselves for personal protection in anticipation of a possible economic collapse. I agree."

"Here is how the Mitchell argument plays out. ..."

"About a year ago, I spoke at a conference in Europe that attracted a lot of very rich people from all over the continent, as well as a lot of people who manage money for high-net-worth individuals."

"What made this conference remarkable was not the presentations ... The stunning part of the conference was learning – as part of casual conversation ... – how many rich people are planning for the eventual collapse of European society."

"From Amnesty International by way of the Huffington Post we hear: Senate Introduces Disastrous New Detention Bill, part of SB1867, the National Defense Authorization bill. When I first read about this I thought it had to be a hoax. I couldn’t believe that even a Congresscritter would be stupid enough to vote for something like this. But a quick perusal of Google News confirmed that some members of Congress, not satisfied with merely abrogating their oaths of office, are intent upon positively shredding the Constitution. And quite possibly starting a civil war while they are at it…" ...

"Florida loophole? What is this Florida loophole to which they are referring and how does it increase the threat of gun violence? "Elliotte writes,"
"I'm looking to expand my firearm collection out into the realm of AR-pattern rifles, but I could use some advice. I'm a lefty and I've heard stories of other lefties having trouble with empty brass being ejected back at them. I've done some searching and found that there are companies that make ARs for lefties, do you have any that you would rank best? Also I like that you can change the upper and/or barrel to fire other calibers like .22LR or 300BLK. If I wanted to do the same on a southpaw-AR would it be as simple as changing just the barrel or would I need a whole new lefty upper in the new caliber? Thanks for the help."

Guns on campus not the solution

"Regarding the Nov. 23 letter, 'Allow legal firarms[sic] on campus,' do you people think this is the wild, wild West? What if guns were allowed on campus, and the person with the umbrella had been shot by a gun-toting student or faculty member because that person thought he was carrying a gun, just as people originally thought?"

"What are you going to say, 'Oops, my bad?'" ...

Submitter's Note: Another hoplophobe showing his irrationality, because if guns were allowed on campus then why would you want to shoot someone else who was carrying a gun? Besides, no one I know with a permit to carry would mistake an umbrella for a rifle.

"Statement of Brady Campaign Acting President Dennis Henigan to Illinois Representative Joe Walsh’s November 8th Debate Invite:"

"'On November 8, Rep. Joe Walsh invited me to debate him on the Second Amendment in his home district. I think a debate is an excellent idea, but it makes far more sense to have the debate here in Washington, D.C. The meaning and scope of the Second Amendment has implications for both federal and state legislation, not to mention national implications for how we think about our democracy. I, therefore, invite Rep. Walsh to hold this debate on Capitol Hill, easily accessible to his colleagues in the House and Senate and their staffs, as well as the national press corps. ...'" ...
-------

KABA Note: A perfect example of the Brady Campaign's nature. Rep. Walsh wanted to hold the debate where his constituents (both current and potential) could see it. Denny wants to be in front of the national press and the 'movers and shakers' on Capitol Hill. A textbook example of the difference between grassroots and Astro Turf®.

... "Violence has and can happen anywhere at any time. Campuses are not immune, and a campus where a potential shooter knows there are no concealed guns may feel emboldened. Concealed guns, then, have the benefit of being both protection and deterrent."

"But do the benefits outweigh the costs? A student with ready access to a gun might use it in a moment of anger or clouded judgment. Or a person trying to take out a shooter might kill or injure another person. The probability of violence on campus is greater when guns are allowed than when they are not." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Really? The where is the spike in shootings on Utah campuses? Besides as L. Neil Smith reminds us: "The freedom to own and carry the weapon of your choice is a natural, fundamental, and inalienable human, individual, civil, and Constitutional right -- subject neither to the democratic process nor to arguments grounded in social utility. "Whether we like the system or not, it seems that virtually every gun control law passed ends up being heard by the US Supreme Court. With a renewed effort amongst the Democrats to ban guns and conceal and carry, the makeup of the SCOTUS becomes a critical issue for gun rights."

"The current Court is made up of five justices that have ruled in favor of the Second Amendment right to bear and carry firearms and four justices that believe the Second Amendment is being wrongly interpreted. These four justices, Breyer, Ginsburg, Sotomayor and Kagan, only need one more Second Amendment dissenter to be nominated to the Court and the face of gun control will be drastically changed for years to come." ...
