City Council Monday heard from local and state agency representatives on alcohol concerns and took a “symbolic” statement on gun control.
Mayor Paul Blackburn received unanimous support from the council on his request that the city consider adopting a resolution supporting comprehensive background check requirements for firearm sales. Blackburn is a member of the Mayors for Gun Control organization, which promotes the Congressional resolution strengthening the criminal background system for weapons purchases. |

Reno Guns & Range has been approved as an officially recognized local qualifying location for American Marksman — a new concept shooting competition TV show by Outdoor Sportsman Group. Amateur target shooters from the Reno area will have the chance to qualify to earn bids to the Southwest Regional and, ultimately for the American Marksman national championship, where they will compete for a grand prize of $50,000 and the title of the very first American Marksman. |

Michigan residents could carry concealed handguns without a permit under a recently proposed package of four bills.
After previously failed attempts to pass similar legislation, the lawmakers “started from scratch and proposed what we believe is the best language,” said co-sponsor Rep. Gary Glenn, R-Larkin Township. More so now than any time in recent history, people face a threat to personal and public safety, Glenn said.

Would you post a sign announcing that your home is a gun-free zone? Would you feel safer? Criminals don't obey these signs. In fact, to criminals, gun-free zones look like easy targets.
This week the Tennessee state Senate Judiciary Committee considered four bills that would make it easier for people to defend themselves. Three of the bills would end gun-free zones at universities. The fourth would allow permit holders who are banned from carrying guns in gun-free zones on government or private property to sue for damages.

The recent Star Tribune Minnesota Poll on gun control confirms that the views of a large majority (82 percent) of Minnesotans have been ignored by our elected officials. The poll determines that we who support stricter background checks on all gun sales constitute a large majority in all broad categories of Minnesotans, including gender, income level, place of residence, political affiliation and whether or not we own guns. |
