Handgun optics allow shooters to extend the ranges at which they can shoot with precision and speed. Optics, whether on pistols or rifles, eliminate the problem of trying to simultaneously focus on three things at different distances, i.e. the target, the front sight and the rear sight. The optic presents an in-focus dot (or crosshair in a scope) that you simply place on the intended target. Like many things designed to improve our lives, this is neither a magic all-encompassing solution, nor is it free. As always, its usefulness depends on being able to master it, and whether it works for us in our daily lifestyle. |

Former Florida Governor and Republican Presidential hopeful Jeb Bush posted a simple picture to his Twitter account yesterday that seems to have almost broken the Internet.
Bush received what appears to be a FNX -45 .45 ACP pistol with “Gov. Jeb Bush” engraved on the slide when visiting firearms manufacturer FN America in Columbia, South Carolina. The handgun may be Bush’s first, as the candidate has previously said that he did not own any firearms. |

Last month, we told you about legislation sponsored by state senator Tim Neville that would allow concealed carry without a permit in Colorado.
Senate Bill 16-017, the original version of which is shared here, is still alive; on February 12, according to the Colorado General Assembly's history page, the state senate's Appropriations committee referred the amended document to the senate Committee of the Whole.
But that doesn't mean that Neville — who's also running for the U.S. Senate in the hopes of defeating current seat-holder Michael Bennet — is resting on his Second Amendment bona fides. |

This week Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz warned that Antonin Scalia's death leaves us "one justice away from the Second Amendment being written out of the Constitution altogether." Although I share the Texas senator's concern about the fate of the right to keep and bear arms if a Democrat nominates Scalia's replacement, the short-term consequences may be less dramatic than Cruz implies. |

Sen. Ted Cruz is obnoxious. Sen. Marco Rubio is nice. That’s why so many Republican politicians, donors, and party leaders want the senator from Florida, not the senator from Texas, to be the Republican nominee for president. They think Rubio would attract more voters than Cruz in a general election, and polls suggest they’re right. But the polls and pols miss an important factor: Tactically, Cruz is smarter than Rubio. That difference is becoming clearer as the candidates grapple with the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. |

Snyder said that, "Criticism of Trump on the right to keep and bear arms issue seems to have come about at least partially because his pro-gun rights position represents a reversal of previously-held attitudes.
"However, that is ridiculous. Our pro-gun rights, pro-individual freedom movement needs converts in order to continue expanding throughout the United States. Where would the United States be today if our Founding Fathers had continued to seek reconciliation with the English Crown rather than promoting American independence? Even modern conservative icon Ronald Reagan switched from Democrat to Republican." |

Distributing more guns into the hands of civilians is wrong. By the end of this year, it’s virtually certain that more than 30,000 Americans will die at the hands of gun owners. Do gun sellers and purchasers have any responsibility? Which of these is more important, the right of every American to have a gun? Or the rights of 30,000 people a year to continue living instead of being shot to death?

Despite a September public hearing, a series of Planning Board meetings and the commissioners’ discussion in January, many people only learned about the proposal in the last few days. Social media posts – including a plea from the Grass Roots North Carolina website – fed rumors the county would attempt to sneak new restrictions past gun owners.
Some speakers said they contacted the National Rifle Association and others, and planned to pursue the issue if the rules passed.
“I aim to make this bigger deal, as do many people behind me, if you continue with this ordinance and do not take our constitutional rights into (consideration), because you guys do not supersede the U.S. Constitution,” Lauren Resnick said. |

When Cosmopolitan magazine teamed up with Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun Everytown for Gun Safety group to produce an anti-gun guide for single women, I never expected the result would feature a picture and quote from yours truly. Well, to be honest, I didn’t hear anything about the partnership until my friend Liz Sheld of PJ Media wrote an article about the partnership and highlighted my “contribution.” |

As compelling as this reasoning might be, the Court could easily rule that while the Second Amendment does acknowledge an individual right to keep and bear arms, that right does not encompass concealed carry; or semiautomatic handguns; or open carry; or hollow point ammunition; or magazines of more than 5 round capacity; or loaded handguns; or “assault weapons”; or ammunition containing lead; and the list is essentially endless.
Some will surely say this is alarmism. It would never happen. Remember that one of the primary tactics of the anti-liberty, anti- Second Amendment movement is denying their true intentions until they think they have an opportunity to get their way. |

13 News has been following the story of a Nitro homeowner who police said was forced to defend himself after a driver slammed into his garage and attacked him. The driver is being treated for a gun shot wound to the abdomen but the shooter will not be charged.
If someone tries to break into your home and cause you harm, a West Virginia law called the Castle Doctrine could protect you from lawsuit and jail time, even if you use force to protect yourself. |

More than 14 months after victims’ families sued Bushmaster Firearms in the aftermath of the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, the lawsuit is finally approaching the first critical test of a novel liability claim: Whether or not the riflemaker can be held responsible for the Sandy Hook massacre because of how it has marketed a military-style weapon to civilians.
The case was filed by relatives of nine of the 26 children and adults Adam Lanza killed with a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle. Bushmaster argues that the suit is barred under the decade-old federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which shields the gun industry from liability claims. |

The 1970s-era rock star and longtime National Rifle Association board director Ted Nugent lit a firestorm last week when he made a series of anti-Semitic posts on his Facebook page. Nugent accused prominent Jewish Americans of promoting gun control as part of a plot to disarm citizens and impose Nazi-like tyranny across the United States.
In response to criticism of his posts Nugent wrote, “what sort of racist prejudiced POS could possibly not know that Jews for gun control are nazis in disguise?” |

The 16-year-old boy found with a gunshot wound to the leg Monday morning on Audubon Street may have been shot during a break-in attempt nearby, New Orleans police say, but no homeowner has thus far admitted to shooting him.
Responding officers found the 16-year-old boy in the 3500 block of Audubon Street with a gunshot wound to the leg shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15, said NOPD Sgt. Patrick Kennelly of the Second District violent crimes division. The teen initially told the police a story about being shot by a strange-looking man in a passing car in the 3100 block of Audubon, but most of those details didn’t check out, Kennelly said. |

The lead rocker for the band playing at Bataclan in Paris last November when terrorists launched an attack that killed 130 people in multiple locations is making headlines today by observing in an emotional interview that “until nobody has guns everybody has to have them.”
The timing is ironic, considering that the weekend death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia set off a furious debate over his replacement, and how that might affect court rulings, particularly on the Second Amendment. Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz has already tapped into the concern of gun owners, if only to predict that Donald Trump would appoint a liberal justice to the high court to undo Scalia’s legacy. |

Township trustees hope to have an open dialogue with representatives of a local church after learning it's considered opening an outdoor gun range on a 30-acre parcel of land.
Trustees said a representative of the Medina Assembly of God contacted them about building the range, taking the township's zoning inspector on a tour of the property to explain their plan.
But the trustees said even if they wanted to object, they have no authority to do that. |

The Richmond Hill City Council on Tuesday signed off on a petition request by a proposed sporting-goods store that would also have gun sales and safety training.
Council voted to approve a text amendment to a zoning ordinance to add “sporting goods store with gun sales” as a conditional use in an interchange commercial district. The proposed store’s address is 3766 Highway 17, suite 103.
The petition was filed by Mike Pinault of Pinault Defensive Solutions. In addition to sporting goods and guns being sold, the store would provide gun-safety courses for first-time gun handlers as well as self-defense courses. |
