"'Disperse, you rebels; damn you, throw down your arms and disperse!'"
"-- Major John Pitcairn, April 19, 1775, at Lexington, Massachussetts, while waving his sword in the air."
"With all of the focus given to the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, many Americans forget that today is the day the war actually broke out, when militiamen gathered on the bridge at Lexington and exchanged shots with government troops coming in force to disarm the colonists. Major Pitcairn hardly expected the resistance that he met. The first shots were fired at dawn at Lexington, but the seventy or so Americans quickly retreated, with the shootout lasting only a few minutes ..." ... |

"A half dozen armed cops and a 'commonwealth's attorney' barged into the student newspaper office at James Madison University in Virginia recently and confiscated 600 pictures the newspaper had taken of a 'melee' off campus where the cops used tear gas and other means of force and coercion to end what they call a 'riot.'"
"The cops/bureaucrat say they only wanted the pictures to identify people in them who might be a danger to the community. ... An alternative hypothesis would be that some of the pictures might have incriminated the police for the kind of police brutality that occurred not too long ago at the University of Maryland where a student celebrating a basketball victory by skipping down a sidewalk was beaten senseless ..." |

"A California Highway Patrol office was briefly evacuated earlier this month when investigators became concerned that an arrestee might have been carrying a concealed explosive device. When officers collared Steven Ferrini on a drug charge, a search of the 60-year-old suspect turned up 'a suspicious wire, with an on/off switch' in his pants pocket. 'The wire was found to extend from the pant pocket to the subject's anus,' according to a CHP report ... Though Ferrini claimed that the wire was connected to an anal vibrator, officers became suspicious when he subsequently 'began to explain his knowledge of explosives and bomb making.' So they called in El Dorado County's 'explosive ordinance disposal' team ..." ... |

"The CU Board of Regents suffered a setback in their plans to ignore the wishes of the majority of students and ban all guns from the campus. Their ban has been struck down by the Colorado Court of Appeals for being in conflict with the Concealed Carry Act of 2003. That act included verbiage to harmonize the laws from the state level down, so that lower governing bodies like cities could not restrict weapons beyond what the state law allowed."

"Arkansas is a beautiful state, blessed with many opportunities to enjoy its scenic splendor and other attractions. However, an Arkansas vacation is not advised for the gun-owning tourist. Following are many reasons why:""The entire Ozark National Forest and all other Wildlife Management Areas are off-limits to firearms of any kind, unless you have an Arkansas-approved gun permit. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission have deemed themselves lords over these lands and have illegally enacted firearms regulations which are stricter than gun-hating California. "In response to Monday's editorial 'New gun law endangers everyone,' it is unfair to target responsible citizens as criminals. ... The bill signed by Gov. Jan Brewer was most likely in favor of protecting our citizens from illegal migrants from Mexico ... Also, it was passed to protect the Second Amendment. But to say that everyone is now in danger is hard to fathom. In Vermont, one of the three states that they follow the same policy as Arizona, which allows citizens to carry a concealed firearm without a permit, the crime rate is relatively low. At the University of Utah, students are allowed to conceal their weapons on campus and inside the classroom but no accident or firearm discharge has happened. ..." ... |
