The Delaware House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 325. Under this bill, the waiting period for purchasing a gun would be extended to 30 days. The Democratic House Leader called the bill a “no brainer.” I would agree, but it is thoughtless and does not address the real issues that we have with violence in our state. |

Asked to name his favorite firearm at a GOP candidate forum Monday evening, judicial hopeful Chris Nedbalek produced an answer that was startling for its boldness, even for an audience that prizes guns and gun rights among its most treasured political and social values. Nedbalek replied that for hikes in the Hondo Valley he prefers his AK-47 assault rifle “and a couple of 30-round magazines,” because aggressive dog packs roam the area, and a solitary hiker might not be safe without enough firepower to stop a dozen or more at once. |

A federal security officer charged with killing three people in Maryland, including his estranged wife, voluntarily surrendered seven guns after a March court order, authorities said Tuesday. Those weapons lined up with a list his wife provided, so officials didn’t suspect he was withholding a weapon used in the shootings. |

Real or fake? That’s the question police officers must answer quickly when they see weapons. Officers and students teamed up to make sure students know the dangers that fake weapons can pose. At South High School on Tuesday, officers brought replica weapons to the school to help spread the message “Fake guns carry real consequences.” Officers invited the students to examine the guns and identify whether they were real or fake. |

Law enforcement throughout West Virginia will be instructed to enforce the state's new "constitutional carry" law almost two weeks earlier than originally anticipated, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said Monday. Guidelines issued by the attorney general's office on implementing the bill, which will allow most people to carry concealed handguns without a permit, indicate the law will go into effect May 24. Morrisey had previously advised the law would go into effect June 5.

Yesterday’s big-money fund raising luncheon in Seattle to fatten the campaign war chest for Initiative 1491, the new gun control measure pushed by the same people who bankrolled Initiative 594 two years ago, raised a reported $750,000, according to the Seattle P-I.com. What the gathering didn’t do, and what the measure won’t do, is prevent violent crime by determined people. As this column has previously reported (see link below), I-594 has been a failure as a crime prevention tool, something its elitist backers will never acknowledge. However, recent news reports are taking care of that. |

Donald Trump distorts the facts when he says “Hillary Clinton wants to take your guns away” and “abolish the Second Amendment.” Clinton’s gun violence prevention proposal would impose restrictions, including a ban on semi-automatic “assault weapons,” but it does not call for banning all guns. Trump made his remarks at a rally in Lynden, Washington, eliciting boos from his audience. As we have written before, Trump made a similar remark in a TV interview on Jan. 6, when he claimed Clinton “wants to take everyone’s gun away.”

Anti-gun politicians and gun-ban groups have lately been poking fun at law-abiding gun owners’ concerns about the future of the U.S. Supreme Court. “You’re just paranoid,” they say with a smirk, then add that the Second Amendment is actually in no danger at all. Yet Justice Antonin Scalia’s death, after his strong support for individual rights in extremely close 5-4 decisions in both the Heller and McDonald cases, is nothing to joke about. Should the wrong candidate—namely current Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton—get to appoint the next Supreme Court justice (or even the next several), gun owners could find their rights restricted out of existence.

A gun buyback program in Detroit will offer gift cards to sellers on the spot and, eventually, collectable jewelry for those who want to help support the cause.
Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon announced Monday the event is scheduled for June 11 at the Mathis Community Center. He says people can bring any unloaded gun -- no questions asked -- and receive a $50 gift card.
The collected weapons' serial numbers are incorporated into jewelry made from the melted metal. An organization called the Caliber Collection donates 20 percent of jewelry sales to future gun buyback programs.

"No one out there is talking about disarming the American people," Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) said on Tuesday. "It's almost just silly to think that you have 350 million guns -- how would you even begin and and why would you want to do that?" Beyer, interviewed on CSPAN, also said the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear arms "from the militia perspective," but he also said, "There's nothing in the Constitution that says gun manufacturers have a right to manufacture guns. That's a -- you know, you can maybe leap to that, but they are not mentioned in the Constitution."

Michigan is a sovereign state that needs to protect Second Amendment rights and do “everything possible” to keep the federal government away from residents’ guns, Sen. Phil Pavlov said. The St. Clair Republican is reloading a bill that would exempt firearms made in Michigan from “overreaching federal government” regulations. This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved SB 15, which would establish the Michigan Firearms Freedom Act. It aims to prevent federal regulation of firearms — specifically those manufactured and exclusively sold in Michigan and carrying the brand “Made in Michigan.”
