The first revolver I ever fired was my grandpa’s 38 S&W Special. Ever since that day, I’ve had a soft spot for revolvers, especially the 38 Special. I’ve taken his 38 Special revolver to the range many times since that fateful day to test how various types of ammunition perform and hone my skills. Target shooting burns through rounds fast, so I always stock up on bulk 38 Special ammo before a range weekend, it's the only way to keep practice affordable. |

The High Standard Supermatic Trophy reviewed for this article belonged to my grandfather, then to my father, and now to me. And like a classic American car from the 50s or 60s, it immediately draws one’s mind back to a time when beauty was more than skin deep; a time when products were made to look as good as they performed. |

It’s impossible to avoid knowing that June is “Pride Month,” but did you know June is also “Gun Violence Awareness Month?” That’s quite the assertion, as there is no such thing as “gun violence.” I’m still waiting for someone to declare some month: “Old White Guy Writer Month.” I may have to do that myself.

| QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
| Some of the worst abuses of government force in recent years were precipitated by technical and victimless gun-law violations. For example, the BATF claimed that the Branch Davidians possessed machine guns without paying the required federal tax and filling in the proper registration forms. So a tax case worth less than $10,000 led to a 76-man helicopter, machine gun, and grenade assault on a home in which 2/3 of the occupants were women and children. — Dave Kopel and Dr. Michael S.
