Every so often, something that happens on a range serves to remind me that rather than dying or fading away, good lessons just keep chugging along. That these events usually involve high-stress competition or shooting instruction is evidence that well-executed training can expose the best (and worst) of our equipment and skill sets. The present example involves prioritizing function over form, and comes from a friend who recently attended a high-round-count carbine course.

We hope everyone was able to celebrate America's Independence in July safely with a little more freedom this year. Some Americans certainly took the plunge and exercised their freedom to purchase a firearm. And is there any greater exercise of freedom or better way to show your patriotism than to purchase a gun? We think not.

On a 217-213 vote that saw five Democrats jump ship in opposition, and two Republicans crossing the aisle to support it, the U.S. House on Friday passed H.R. 1808, which bans the future sale and manufacture of so-called “assault weapons.”

But it may wind up being a symbolic election year gesture, designed to show voters back home Congress has “done something” about violent crime, because the legislation is not likely to pass the Senate.

Oregon’s anti-gun proponents are working overtime to push the country's most egregious gun control scheme on the ballot this November. And they're not afraid to use deceptive tactics to try and get your vote. Do not be fooled, Ballot Measure 114 (also known as Initiative Petition (IP) 17), which WILL be on the November 8 ballot, is dangerous to Oregon’s law-abiding gun owners, sportsmen and women, and Second Amendment supporters. Vote NO on Ballot Measure 114.

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is now accepting applications to hunt in limited permit areas during the 2022 antlerless deer season. Applications for the lottery are available online at wvhunt.com and will be accepted until midnight on Aug. 12. "These limited permit areas provide antlerless deer hunting opportunities in counties or areas of the state where wildlife biologists have determined that issuing limited numbers of antlerless deer permits will help meet management objectives," said Chris Ryan, game management supervisor for the WVDNR.

Guruka Singh Khalsa smiled as volunteers removed a rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and a 1911 Colt semi-automatic pistol from the trunk of his car. “For a couple of years, I’ve been thinking, ‘I haven’t used a gun in 30 years, why do I keep these in the house?’ ” Singh Khalsa said.

The investigation was conducted by the House Committee of Oversight and Reform, which began the investigation after the Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, mass shootings.

The following discussion was prompted by some moron at the farmer’s market babbling about Second Amendment rights. What I found particularly disturbing about this dullard’s opinion is that he went beyond the usual paranoid assertions about needing firearms to protect himself.

Wichita is on track to see the highest recorded number of guns stolen from vehicles in recent years. Often, perpetrators simply open a vehicle that was left unlocked. “We’re not talking about somebody that busts the windows and starts searching through the car hoping to find a firearm. I mean they’re literally just opening the door,” police spokesman Chad Ditch said.

Three months after losing unanimously before Washington State’s liberal Supreme Court in its challenge to state gun law preemption, the City of Edmonds has repealed its “safe storage” ordinance, but that still leaves nearby Seattle with a similar regulation on the books, which the high court’s decision effectively nullified.

Handgun cartridge naming is an aspect of firearm ownership that can be confusing to new shooters at first – and if you decide to get yourself a full-size Sig Sauer 1911 or Glock 21, you might note on the barrel that it says, “45 Auto.” Excited to get some ammo for your new sidearm, you peruse the gun store shelves and are dismayed to only find boxes labeled, “45 ACP.”

I’ll be the first to admit that I'm more than just a fan of CZ firearms. From the beginning of my development as a gun nut, I have always had a fond feeling toward CZ’s firearms and the brand in general. So, it came as a great surprise to me when I was handed a CZ over-under 12-gauge shotgun – specifically an Ultralight – since I didn’t even know they made shotguns.

The involvement of the United States in World War I resulted in many interesting stories of the production of small arms to equip the rapidly expanded military that was required for the conflict. There is one story, though, which has gone largely unnoticed by the modern collecting community.
