While it’s more than a bit absurd to suggest buying a brand-new deer rifle every season, it surely is interesting to peruse the most recent yearly hunting rifle launches. In a speech delivered in December 1940, a year before the United States officially entered World War II, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared that the U.S. “must be the great arsenal of democracy.” Roosevelt’s words proved prescient, as the U.S. produced 86,000 tanks, 96,000 bombers, 2.4 million trucks, and 6.5 million rifles to help deliver an Allied victory.

The first red-dot sight designed for a firearm came from Aimpoint nearly 50 years ago. It quickly staked a claim in the rifle world and—after shedding cumbersome bulk—is taking the pistol market by storm. The popularity shows in the number of handguns that ship wearing either an optic or factory-cut slide for mounting one.

There's a long-term conservation program that shows few signs of actually being broken, but a segment of Congress seems to want to fix it. The “fix” comes in the form of proposed legislation introduced in late June. Rep. Andy Clyde's RETURN of Our Constitutional Rights Act would eliminate a significant source of funding for state wildlife agencies that has been in place since the passage of the Pittman-Robertson Act in 1937.

The shameless hypocrisy of the Biden administration is on display through mouthpiece Kamala Harris, who has condemned widespread public criticism of the recent FBI invasion of President Donald Trump’s home. In the upside-down Biden world, all that is evil is hailed as good, and what is good is derided as evil. Since Kamala has so consistently taken the wrong position in battles concerning public safety, her current histrionics serve as a predictive indicator that the FBI acted improperly – the opposite of her doublespeak.

Growing up, I cut my long-gun teeth on bolt action rifles. It wasn’t until college, when I bought my first AR-15, that I learned about the concept of side-charging vs rear-charging AR-15 receivers. But, why care about charging handle location? Similar to other firing controls, the charging handle location can determine several things for the shooter.

The FBI raid on President Donald Trump’s Florida home came as little surprise to the gun rights community. After all, the Department of Justice was weaponized against us the second the current occupants of the White House began measuring the drapes. Their agents have been running and gunning without any adult supervision ever since. So, it was only a matter of time before they became emboldened enough to raid a former President’s home – armed with weapons of war, no less. |

Unfortunately, gun cleaning solvents can rank low in the hierarchy of hunting and shooting gear, but that doesn’t make them any less important. After all, buying a bottle of bore cleaner isn’t as sexy as slapping a new bipod on your gun or upgrading your riflescope. Trust me, I know: I spent over five years working at a local gun shop throughout my extended college years, and except for the serious hunters and precision shooters, I saw the same trends year after year.
