Voters in Kenosha County this November won’t be asked whether holders of concealed carry permits should be allowed to bring guns into most county-owned buildings. Although the county board repealed a long-standing ban earlier this summer, Supervisor Jeff Gentz proposed that the voters be allowed to weigh in after the fact anyway. His proposal was defeated in committee Tuesday night. Then later at a meeting of the County Board, a move to suspend the rules to allow the full board to vote on the referendum idea failed to get the necessary two-thirds majority.

Any consumer of political news and commentary is well advised to bear in mind that even the most trusted of broadcasters has a commercial interest in sensationalizing policy differences and portraying their ideological opponents as cartoonishly devious figures of menace. Theatrical exaggeration in political coverage is inevitable; a commentator's own partisan proclivities may color the reportage, or a commentator may be subtly (or not so subtly) pressured to pander to the political preferences of network ownership. At the very least, all are obliged to engage in the showmanship necessary to capture and hold an audience.

When I first entered shooting sports and started shopping for a home- and self-defense pistol, I had limited knowledge about firearm manufacturers and the models of guns they made. The only guns I knew were the guns growing up that my father owned. After shooting for a few years and working in the industry, I have much more knowledge—now I know many more firearm manufacturers that I probably wouldn’t have learned about otherwise.

Ask a shotgunner if they like side-by-sides and the answer is usually “of course, who doesn’t?” Side-by-sides are sleek and sexy, they’re traditional, and they are a connection to our shotgunning history. Things change when you ask them if they shoot ’em and the answer mostly is a resounding no. Over/unders, semi-autos and pumps are more commonly used for clays and upland and waterfowl hunting, leaving those foxy side-bys in the gun cabinet like a broken nutcracker on the Island of Misfit Toys.

Tennessee-based Tisas USA has announced a new 1911-style single-action pistol to follow up on its popular Tanker model, offering the new gun in more calibers and finishes. We've talked about the Commander-sized Tisas Tanker a few different times here previously and found it held up well in testing. Using a 4.25-inch hammer-forged chrome-lined barrel on a full-size frame that is crafted of forged steel, the 8+1 shot Tanker is an excellent value in the $400 range but comes with some basic sights and plastic grip panels. The new Tank Commander gives it a step up.

The NRA offers firearm training and other programs to meet the needs of every citizen. Some training is expected to be utilized each time someone handles a firearm—like keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction—while other training one hopes to never have to use, like self-defense. Some NRA training benefits the community by helping train law enforcement officers to protect us. Other programs, such as the NRA School Shield program, are designed to help protect our schools, and the Eddie Eagle program helps protect our children. |

The Supreme Court decision in Bruen sets an appropriate standard for evaluating laws that violate a fundamental, enumerated right protected by the Constitution in the Second Amendment. When there is a challenge to a federal or state rule, law, or regulation claiming such rule, law, or regulation violates the Second Amendment, the court is to evaluate the law based on the historical tradition of firearms regulation. |

Our Founding Fathers didn’t create the Bill of Rights to give you rights. They created the Bill of Rights as a reminder to the government that these rights are inherent simply by being human. Rights cannot be granted or taken away. However, rights can be violated, and unfortunately, we see that frequently concerning our right to keep and bear. God gives us our rights, and Democrats think they can take them away. They view your rights as government-issued privileges that they control. |

The Democrats’ effort to make storied American manufacturer Smith & Wesson the villain du jour in their jihad against the Second Amendment is stupid for any number of reasons, one of which is that the campaign is targeted specifically at AR-style rifles — and “Smith & Wesson” is hardly the first name that leaps to mind when one thinks of such firearms, although the firm.
