Gun control advocates have renewed a longstanding plan to have the Federal Trade Commission (which regulates commercial speech) punish firearms manufacturers for how they advertise firearms. A petition filed with the FTC by several large firearm prohibition organizations claims that any suggestion firearms provide protection to their owners or make their homes safer is tantamount to false advertising. The petition also suggests that the use of patriotic, militaristic, or macho images and languages in firearm advertising – the same themes used to sell everything from beer to vehicles to sun glasses – is deliberately being used to appeal to insurrectionists and mass shooters. |

The “sensitive” place or area debate is now underway. Any law establishing a “sensitive place”—where the lawful carrying of firearms for personal protection by law-abiding individuals may be restricted or prohibited—must be clearly defined, narrow in scope and include certain parameters if it is to be considered constitutional under the correct interpretation of the Second Amendment. Most reasonable people would agree to that. The “sterile” area of an airport would be a good example of such a place. |

Iowa voters in November will be asked to add language to the Iowa Constitution that states it is a “fundamental individual right” to keep and bear arms, and that any restraint on that right is invalid unless it meets the stringent demands of “strict scrutiny.” A new coalition of gun safety advocates warns the pro-gun amendment will prohibit reasonable safety measures that Iowans support, such as firearm safety training, universal background checks and a license to carry a gun in public. |

As homeless encampments increase, it would be wise to consider whether you are well defended in the woods. A few members from my church made note to me they were going up to a local hiking spot to check up on some transient individuals that have been found living in the woods for some time. They know I’m pretty outdoorsy and have a modicum of knowledge regarding self defense. I was asked what they should be carrying, and whether I carry anything while completing local hikes or overnight camping sessions with friends. |

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations has seized more than 1,000 firearms and 140,000 rounds of ammunition from the property of two brothers who were fatally shot by law enforcement during a nine-hour standoff Saturday. The Knox County Sheriff's Office said the brothers, identified as Randy Wilhelm, 56, and Bradley Wilhelm, 53, fired guns at law enforcement vehicles and planned to detonate a propane tank as a bomb rather than face capture before they were fatally shot confronting law enforcement officers. |

For a while, it was something of a secret among the cognoscenti that world champion Ernest Langdon, who shot and gunsmithed his way to fame with the DA Beretta 92, had started carrying a GLOCK 19. There was method to his madness: He was testing his interpretation of this uber-popular modern classic to be offered by his company, Langdon Tactical Technologies.

Holosun’s latest offering is the Enclosed Pistol Sight, or EPS line, of red-dot sights. The EPS family is the first closed-emitter dots intended for compact conceal carry pistols. Two of the biggest trends in handguns right now are closed-emitter red dots and red dots for concealed carry, so Holosun is keeping pace with the industry. Up until now, most rugged, covered red dots were sized for larger, duty-style guns. |

A Manhattan Democrat amid a "cage fight" of a reelection campaign has introduced legislation that will make licensed firearm manufacturers pay extra taxes if they elect to make the most popular rifles in the country. U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, vying for her 16th term in Congress, has been remarkably busy in recent months to publicly scold gun makers for producing semi-auto rifles such as variants of the AR-15.

Democratic Texas gubernatorial candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke’s position on guns is straightforward. The former New York manny wants to ban and confiscate America’s most popular firearms and further undermine Texans’ Second Amendment rights. This radical position plays well with some Democratic presidential primary voters. It doesn’t with the Texas electorate. |

Shotguns may be the most versatile firearms on the face of the planet. Shooters around the globe rely on these smoothbore firearms for hunting, sport shooting, and personal defense. Because shotguns are in such high demand, modern shooters can choose from an incredibly diverse selection, with models designed to suit specific shooting needs. While variety is definitely the spice of life, too many options can make finding the right shotgun seem almost impossible, especially if you’re new to firearms. |

Italian gunmaker Beretta was not an early adopter of polymer pistol designs. Their flagship 92-series guns were, and still are, metal-frame guns, as were many other notable models like the 80-series and 70-series.
